Tofino - pt 1
This magical place is called Tofino. Population 2,516 people.
Serene. Sunsets. Sunshine. Surfing. Sand dollars. Sleeping. Solo. Sanctuary.
It's a place to take a deep breath of fresh air...where you'll want to bottle it up and bring it home to the city.
Cox Bay Beach
The story:
It was February 2022. I was planning to go to Whistler for the week and suddenly Tofino started calling. It's been on my list for some time now but I was always waiting for someone to go with. And then it just kept calling and calling. So I called it! I called the hotel I wanted to stay at and I was met with a lovely women who sold me on the idea immediately.
It was storm watching season but I didn't care. It would be a great experience watching the storms, and if it's sunny, bonus. I was already going to be in BC anyway, so I booked! And let me tell you, it was sunny almost the entire time I was there. Breathtakingly sunny and beautiful. It was everything I didn't even know it would be…and so much more!
From the moment I arrived to the moment I left, it was perfect. Even with some rain showers one day. There's nothing like fresh, ocean and forest, unpolluted air. The waves constantly roaring but in a calming way. Beach walks everyday. Watching the sunset over the ocean with a glass of wine. Sitting by the fire pit with new friends. Happy dogs running around everywhere. People smiling, saying hi and good morning. Watching surfers catch some pretty large waves daily. A 5 minute drive to anywhere. A place where relaxing is promoted as the thing to do…even though there are adventures to be had.

Hiking, biking, surfing, wandering, fishing, whale watching, black bear watching, storm watching, beach exploring and also, just doing a little of nothing!
